Useful Tips for Visiting Phi Phi Island

If you are planning on visiting Phi Phi island in the south of Thailand, there are some things you should know before you go. The island is like no other in the region, it has breath-taking scenery and some of the best beaches in the world. The Hollywood blockbuster ‘The Beach’ starring Leonardo Di Caprio was filmed nearby. Here are some useful tips to consider before you set off.

Modern Facilities

Phi Phi has become incredibly popular with tourists as it became more famous after movies such as the one mentioned above. After the 2004 Tsunami devastated the region, the island was completely redeveloped and now includes lots of modern facilities and excellent holiday resorts. Hotels in Phi Phi island in Thailand can be pricey, but they are worth it once you see all of the beauty the island holds.

Now is a great time to visit Phi Phi, as the pandemic has hit international tourism hard and many places are now only focusing on domestic tourists. Where once the island was full of international travellers, it is now perfect for anyone who wants a quiet slice of the beach to themselves to enjoy a novel and a cocktail.

When to Go

This all depends on what you are looking for from your holiday. In the current climate, not many people can travel so you can get amazing discounts on some of Phi Phi’s best resorts. In addition, you will be able to enjoy all of their facilities without having to worry about the crowds. December and January are the busiest times and prices do increase during this period.

Getting to the Island

There is no airport on the island, so you must travel by boat. Most tourists arrive from the large neighbouring island of Phuket. You can fly into Phuket and get a boat across to Phi Phi. Although there are day trip options, it is recommended you stay for at least a couple of days to fully enjoy your experience. One great thing about the island is the fact there are no roads, eliminating all the pollution you get from vehicles.

There are lots of activities on the island and plenty of places to explore on foot or with a bicycle. The food is outstanding, and the locals are more than happy to converse with tourists and teach them about the history of the island. It is a truly magnificent destination with some quality hotels and resorts.
